The great vineyards of Southern France

From the Mediterranean coast to the foothills of the Pyrenees, Corsica, Languedoc, Provence, Roussillon and South-West France offer an outstanding diversity of wines and terroirs. Each wine region has its own distinctive identity, shaped by its landscapes, soils and winemaking traditions. Powerful reds, fresh aromatic whites, elegant rosés and naturally sweet wines create a remarkably varied selection for both knowledgeable enthusiasts and wine lovers looking for distinctive bottles.

Terroirs shaped by the Mediterranean, mountains and Atlantic

The Mediterranean climate has a major influence on the vineyards of Provence, Languedoc, Roussillon and Corsica, where sunshine, cooling winds and the proximity of the sea encourage ripe grapes while helping to preserve freshness. Schist, limestone, granite, clay and stony soils produce an impressive range of expressions. Further west, South-West France also benefits from Atlantic and continental influences, creating a patchwork of terroirs ideally suited to indigenous grape varieties.

An exceptional diversity of grape varieties

These regions are distinguished by their rich viticultural heritage. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault play leading roles in Mediterranean blends, while Vermentino, Niellucciu and Sciaccarellu contribute to the unique identity of Corsican wines. In South-West France, Malbec, Tannat, Négrette, Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng produce highly distinctive wines. The resulting styles range from supple, fruit-driven bottles to concentrated wines with excellent ageing potential.

Appellations with distinctive personalities

The diversity of Southern French wine is reflected in renowned appellations such as Bandol, Palette and Côtes de Provence, alongside Pic Saint-Loup, Terrasses du Larzac, Corbières and Minervois in Languedoc. Roussillon is famous for Collioure, Maury and Banyuls, while the South-West includes Cahors, Madiran, Jurançon and Fronton. Corsica adds Patrimonio, Ajaccio and a variety of distinctive island terroirs whose wines clearly express their origins.

Characterful wines for the table

The diversity of wines from Corsica, Languedoc, Provence, Roussillon and South-West France provides countless food-pairing possibilities. Provence rosé is an excellent match for fish, Mediterranean dishes and summer cuisine, while reds based on Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Tannat or Malbec pair beautifully with grilled meat, game and slow-cooked dishes. Dry white wines complement seafood and cheeses, while naturally sweet and dessert wines can be paired with desserts, blue cheese and sweet-and-savoury dishes.
