The vineyard of Beaujolais owns a 50-kilometers long territory. One of the part is located in the Saône-et-Loire department (in the continuity of the Mâconnais), and the other part is in the Rhône to the Monts du Lyonnais. It has a temperate continental climate. Located relatively close to the Massif Central, this vineyard is protected from oceanic and Mediterranean weather conditions such as storms, and is guaranteed to have ideal sunshine due to its southern exposure. Beaujolais wines are divided into 12 appellations: firstly the regional appellations (Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages) as well as the 10 "Crus" corresponding to the “Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée”, including the famous Morgon, Brouilly or Fleurie. This wine region, planted with 19,000 hectares of vines, offers 97% of red wines produced from a single grape variety: the Gamay Noir. This grape variety perfectly reflects its terroirs and produces wines that are not very colourful but light, round and fruity. As for the white wines, they are made from Chardonnay, which represents only 200 hectares of vines and produces aromatic Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages. If you like good value for money or aromatic wines, you won't be disappointed!
