Estate

Domaine Ponsot is an emblematic estate located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. Covering 5 hectares 48 ares 53 centiares, the estate is renowned for its wines of great finesse and elegance, produced from exceptional terroirs.

Vineyard

The vineyard is situated on the prestigious Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru appellation, near the famous climats of Côte de Nuits. This terroir benefits from a specific clay-limestone soil, ideal for cultivating Pinot Noir, the sole grape variety of this appellation.

Wine

The Domaine Ponsot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 is a red wine of remarkable elegance, expressing the full complexity of Pinot Noir on this terroir. This vintage promises a balance between power and finesse, typical of the great crus of the region, with a good aging potential.

Vintage

The 2023 vintage, still relatively young, is marked by good grape ripeness, concentration, and optimal health. It offers an interesting aging potential that requires some patience in the cellar to fully reveal its qualities.

Vinification & Aging

The vinification follows Burgundy traditions with controlled maceration to extract finesse and fruit elegance. Aging is done in oak barrels, part of which are new, for about 12 to 18 months, adding complexity and structure to the wine.

Tasting

  • Appearance: Deep red color with garnet reflections.
  • Nose: Intense and complex, revealing aromas of black cherry, Périgord black truffle, with subtle notes of undergrowth and fine spices.
  • Palate: Powerful and elegant, with fine and silky tannins, balanced between freshness and richness, and a long persistent finish.

Serving

Serve between 16 and 18°C. Decanting for one hour is recommended for this young wine to fully express its aromas.

Food Pairings

This Grand Cru pairs excellently with pan-seared foie gras with spices, Breton lobster roasted with salted butter, herb-crusted rack of lamb, or roasted woodcock.

Occasions

Perfect for an important business meal, a wedding anniversary, or a year-end celebration where one wishes to enjoy a great Burgundy wine.

Aging Potential

Best enjoyed between 2028 and 2040 to reach its peak. Can be tasted now but will gain complexity with aging.
