Gevrey-Chambertin "Mes Cinq Terroirs" 2022
A Family Legacy Driven by Passion
Denis Mortet Estate traces its origins back to 1956, when Charles Mortet acquired a single hectare of vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. His son, Denis Mortet, joined the estate in 1978 alongside his wife, Laurence. With an uncompromising commitment to quality and an innovative vision, he transformed the domaine, shifting from bulk wine sales to bottling and direct marketing of his own wines. Through relentless work and an unyielding pursuit of excellence, Denis Mortet became one of Burgundy’s most revered winemakers, known for crafting wines of unparalleled finesse and purity.
An Exceptional Estate on the Finest Côte de Nuits Terroirs
Today, the estate spans 16 hectares, covering some of the most prestigious appellations in the Côte de Nuits. Gevrey-Chambertin remains its heart, with parcels in legendary vineyards such as Champeaux, Lavaux Saint-Jacques, and Clos Prieur. The estate also cultivates Grand Crus like Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin, ensuring the production of wines that authentically reflect the unique identity of Burgundy’s terroirs.
Exemplary, Environmentally Conscious Viticulture
Denis Mortet always championed meticulous and sustainable viticulture, rejecting excessive treatments and prioritizing careful soil management. This philosophy is now carried forward by his son, Arnaud Mortet, who has led the estate since 2006. Committed to preserving the natural balance of the vineyards, he favors manual plowing and biodiversity to ensure impeccable fruit quality. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, with rigorous sorting to retain only the finest grapes.
Meticulous Winemaking for Exceptionally Elegant Wines
In the cellar, the pursuit of purity and balance guides every winemaking decision. Fermentations are conducted with precision, tailored to each vintage’s characteristics. Whole-cluster fermentation is occasionally used to enhance structure and depth. Aging occurs in carefully selected French oak barrels, with a measured use of new wood to preserve aromatic finesse and terroir identity. Each cuvée is crafted with extreme attention to detail, resulting in wines of remarkable elegance that evolve beautifully over time.
A Distinctive Signature with Global Acclaim
Denis Mortet Estate wines are now regarded as benchmarks of Burgundy, cherished by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide. Their aromatic complexity, velvety texture, and exceptional length make them true gems of French viticulture. Under the leadership of Arnaud Mortet, who continues his father’s legacy with passion and humility, the estate remains at the pinnacle of Burgundian excellence, honoring Denis Mortet’s extraordinary vision.
