To explore the wines of Vosne-Romanée, what makes this Richebourg interesting compared with the estate's 2018 Suchots?

Appearance: Deep ruby red with garnet hues.
Nose: Complex and elegant, revealing ripe red berry notes, black truffle, and fine spices.
Palate: Powerful yet silky, with refined tannic structure and a long persistent finish featuring forest floor and dark fruit flavors.

The 2020 Richebourg offers an opportunity to explore a grand cru, while Les Suchots 2018 is a premier cru from the same commune. However, this comparison from Jean Grivot involves two appellations and two vintages, so the differences cannot be attributed to classification alone.

Should this 2020 Richebourg be opened after the estate's 2016 Echezeaux?

The vintage alone is not enough to establish an order for opening these wines. Without information about the maturity or ageing potential of these bottles, it is not possible to say that the 2016 Echezeaux should be drunk before the 2020 Richebourg.

What kind of themed tasting would this 2020 Richebourg suit?

It could feature in a tasting devoted to the wines of Vosne-Romanée, alongside the estate's Suchots or Beaux Monts. Since the wines on offer are from different vintages, it is best to present this as an exploration rather than a like-for-like comparison.

Is this wine suitable for discovering Burgundy Pinot Noir?

It is an example of Pinot Noir from a grand cru in the Côte de Nuits. To discover Burgundy, it is more instructive to consider it as one particular expression to compare with wines from other appellations, rather than as a summary of every style of the grape.

Would a tasting with the 2018 Clos de Vougeot allow a comparison of the 2018 and 2020 vintages?

Not on its own: moving from the 2020 Richebourg to the 2018 Clos de Vougeot means changing both the appellation and the vintage, even though the estate is the same. To study the effect of the vintage more precisely, you would need to compare two Jean Grivot Richebourgs from different years.
