A family estate rooted in Burgundy’s history

Since its foundation in 1920, Domaine Philippe Livera has established itself as a benchmark in Gevrey-Chambertin, one of the most emblematic villages of the Côte de Nuits. Now led by Damien Livera, the fourth generation, the estate continues a tradition of meticulous winemaking, blending ancestral expertise with modern sustainable practices.

Covering approximately 8 hectares, the estate’s vineyards include some of the finest parcels in the appellation. Far from the spotlight of mass production, the Livera family maintains a handcrafted approach, ensuring that each decision in the vineyard and winery enhances the purest expression of Pinot Noir. The result is wines of elegance and depth, faithfully representing their terroir.

An exceptional terroir dedicated to finesse

Situated on the slopes of Gevrey-Chambertin, the vineyard benefits from a remarkable diversity of soils, ranging from limestone marl to iron-rich clay-limestone. This geological complexity gives the wines a unique depth, providing both structure and refinement.

The semi-continental climate, marked by cold winters and sunny summers, allows for slow, gradual grape maturation. This ideal condition enhances Pinot Noir’s aromatic expression and natural balance between freshness and concentration—an equilibrium that the estate strives to preserve in every vintage.

Sustainable and meticulous viticulture

Since taking over in 2007, Damien Livera has implemented sustainable viticulture, drastically reducing chemical use and favoring mechanical soil work. Inspired by biodynamic principles, the estate practices deep plowing, herbal treatments, and a holistic approach to vineyard management, reinforcing vine vitality.

Harvesting is exclusively manual, ensuring a rigorous grape selection. In the cellar, vinification relies on indigenous yeasts, allowing natural fermentation that fully respects the terroir’s identity. Aging occurs in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, with the proportion of new oak carefully adjusted according to vintage and appellation, ensuring balance between oak influence and fruit purity.

Signature cuvées, reflections of their terroir

Each Domaine Philippe Livera cuvée tells a unique story, shaped by its terroir and precise winemaking choices. The Gevrey-Chambertin "Clos Village" is a refined and balanced expression, featuring notes of dark fruits, licorice, and a fine tannic structure. The Gevrey-Chambertin "En Champs," bordering Premier Cru plots, showcases a bolder structure and pronounced mineral depth.

At the pinnacle, the Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru stands as the estate’s crown jewel. Sourced from vines planted in 1952, this powerful and complex wine reveals captivating aromas of black cherry, forest floor, and truffle, with an impressively long finish. Its exceptional aging potential makes it a benchmark for lovers of great Burgundy wines.
