What is the benefit of tasting Le Chapitre alongside the Bourgogne Pinot Noir "16 Ouvrées"?

These two red wines let you compare a Mercurey with a Bourgogne Pinot Noir from the same producer, Lorenzon. This is a useful way to explore two appellations without changing producer, but the information provided does not allow us to predict how they differ on the palate.

Can comparing Le Chapitre with Mercurey 1er Cru Champs Martin show the effect of the classification?

This tasting compares a Mercurey Village with a Mercurey Premier Cru from the same estate. However, it cannot attribute any differences solely to the classification, as these are also two distinct cuvées.

Which bottle should you pair with Le Chapitre to discover Mercurey in both red and white?

Mercurey 1er Cru Blanc Champs Martin lets you stay within the same appellation and with Lorenzon while changing colour. This duo offers two interpretations of Mercurey, but it is not a like-for-like comparison in terms of classification: Le Chapitre is a Village, while Champs Martin Blanc is a Premier Cru.

How can you include Le Chapitre in a discovery of Burgundy's wine regions?

You can choose it as a stop dedicated to the reds of the Côte Chalonnaise: this Pinot Noir comes from Mercurey. In a tasting of Burgundy, it therefore provides a precise geographical reference rather than a purported example of all the region's reds.

Which wine should you look for to compare this 2023 with another vintage?

Choose another vintage of Lorenzon's Mercurey Rouge Le Chapitre to keep the same cuvée as your point of comparison. Comparing this 2023 with a different cuvée would vary several factors at once; no information provided here allows us to characterise the effect of the vintage.
