Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, between Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny, the village of Vougeot holds a prestigious position within the Burgundy vineyard landscape. The Vougeot appellations are structured into three levels: the village-level Vougeot, the Vougeot Premier Cru, and the iconic Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. This hierarchy reflects the richness of a terroir shaped over centuries, notably by the Cistercian monks who established the historic Clos de Vougeot.

Clos de Vougeot, a legendary Grand Cru

The most renowned of the Vougeot appellations is undoubtedly the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru. This vast walled vineyard, covering nearly 50 hectares, is exclusively planted with Pinot Noir. Classified as a Grand Cru, it embodies the depth and nobility of Burgundy’s finest red wines. Depending on the parcel and producer, the wines reveal aromas of dark berries, spice, forest floor and firm tannic structure, offering outstanding ageing potential over decades.

Vougeot Village and Premier Cru: elegance and precision

Alongside the prestigious Grand Cru, the Vougeot Village appellation produces mainly red wines from Pinot Noir, with a limited production of white wines made from Chardonnay. The Vougeot Premier Cru vineyards come from carefully defined climats benefiting from optimal exposure and high-quality soils.
