A Partnership Between Two Wine Enthusiasts
Domaine Marchand-Tawse was established through the collaboration of Pascal Marchand, a Canadian oenologist with a prolific career in Burgundy, and Moray Tawse, an entrepreneur and vineyard owner in Canada. Their shared vision was to create wines that faithfully reflect Burgundy's terroirs while incorporating modern and sustainable viticultural practices.
Commitment to Organic and Biodynamic Viticulture
From its inception in 2011, the estate has emphasized environmentally friendly farming practices. Cultivating approximately 20 appellations, ranging from regional Bourgognes to prestigious Grands Crus, Marchand-Tawse ensures that each parcel is managed according to organic and biodynamic principles. This approach guarantees that the grapes fully express the unique character of their terroir.
Winemaking Merging Tradition and Innovation
The estate's winemaking philosophy combines traditional methods with contemporary techniques. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted, with a variable proportion of whole clusters used during fermentation to add complexity and structure to the wines. Aging occurs in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, allowing for optimal maturation while preserving aromatic purity.
Wines Reflecting the Diversity of Burgundy's Terroirs
Marchand-Tawse's portfolio is extensive, covering a multitude of appellations from the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Each wine is crafted to authentically express its origin, whether it's a powerful and structured Gevrey-Chambertin or an elegant and refined Chambolle-Musigny. This diversity enables wine enthusiasts to explore the richness and complexity of Burgundy's terroirs through the estate's various cuvées.
International Recognition and a Promising Future
Due to their commitment to quality and authenticity, Marchand-Tawse wines have quickly gained global recognition. Critics consistently praise the precision, balance, and depth of the estate's wines. With a dedicated team and an unwavering passion for excellence, Marchand-Tawse continues to elevate the standards of viticulture in Burgundy, honoring the traditions and heritage of this iconic wine region.
