A Passionate Journey into Viticulture
Originally from the Loire Valley, Jérôme Galeyrand did not come from a winemaking family. After eight years in the food industry, he discovered his passion for viticulture while participating in harvests at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1996. This experience motivated him to enroll at the wine institute in Beaune, leading to the purchase of his first vineyard plot in 2002.
An Expanding Estate
Since the initial acquisition of 0.05 hectares, Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand has expanded to cover 5.25 hectares, spread across prestigious appellations such as Gevrey-Chambertin, Marsannay, Fixin, and Côte de Nuits-Villages. This growth reflects Jérôme's commitment to quality and authenticity in his wines.
Viticulture Respectful of the Terroir
The estate practices organic viticulture on 70% of its vineyards, with the remaining 30% managed sustainably. No pesticides are used, and the soils are plowed to maintain their vitality. This approach aims to ensure terroir transparency in every bottle produced.
Precise Winemaking for Authentic Wines
Vinification takes place in a small winery at Jérôme's home. Fermentations are conducted with indigenous yeasts, with no added SO2 during the process. White wines are aged for 10 to 12 months in oak barrels (0 to 20% new), while reds undergo 12 to 14 months of aging in barrels (0 to 30% new). This method allows for the production of precise, refined, and elegant wines that faithfully reflect their terroir.
Signature Cuvées with International Recognition
Among the estate's flagship wines are:
- Gevrey-Chambertin "La Justice": Sourced from vines planted in 1960, this wine is noted for its depth and generous fruitiness.
- Gevrey-Chambertin "Billard": From vines planted in 1987, offering a delicately perfumed and alluring profile.
- Côte de Nuits-Villages "Les Retraits Vieilles Vignes": Crafted from vines planted in 1925 and 1932, this wine reflects remarkable richness and complexity.
These wines, produced at approximately 2,000 cases per year depending on vintage conditions, are appreciated for their finesse and ability to express the unique character of each plot.
