A Family Heritage Since the 1950s
Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer traces its roots back to the 1950s, born from the union of two winemaking families, one from Vosne-Romanée and the other from Magny-lès-Villers. Originally known as Domaine Jayer-Gilles, it was founded by Robert and Paulette Jayer. In 2017, without a successor, Gilles Jayer entrusted the estate to André Hoffmann, a Swiss wine enthusiast, ensuring the continuity of this family-run venture. Under his leadership, the estate has embraced modernization while staying true to the traditions that built its reputation.
A Vineyard at the Crossroads of Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Nuits
Located in Magny-lès-Villers, Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer spans 11 hectares across prestigious appellations such as Échezeaux Grand Cru, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru "Les Damodes," and Nuits-Saint-Georges Village "Les Hauts Poirets." This unique position, at the junction of Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Hautes Côtes de Nuits, provides the estate’s wines with exceptional diversity and aromatic richness, offering subtle and nuanced expressions of Pinot Noir.
Sustainable and Environmentally Conscious Viticulture
The estate is undergoing conversion to organic farming, aiming for official certification. Under the guidance of estate director and winemaker Alexandre Vernet, sustainable practices are prioritized, avoiding chemical herbicides and pesticides. Soil management is key to promoting biodiversity and enhancing vine health. This approach ensures the production of high-quality grapes that perfectly balance freshness and concentration, allowing the true expression of Burgundy’s terroir.
Precision Winemaking for Elegance and Purity
In the winery, Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer adopts a minimalist approach, favoring indigenous yeast fermentations and gentle extractions to preserve the finesse of Pinot Noir. Aging takes place in oak barrels, with a carefully adjusted proportion of new wood: around 30% for Premier Crus and up to 50% for Grand Crus. This method guarantees balanced, expressive wines with excellent aging potential, while maintaining the distinct identity of each vineyard plot.
Wines of Character with Growing Recognition
Domaine Hoffmann-Jayer’s wines are celebrated for their purity, structure, and elegance. The reds offer intense aromas of red and black fruits, combined with depth and silky tannins. The Échezeaux Grand Cru stands out for its power and lingering finish, while the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru "Les Damodes" showcases remarkable complexity. With its commitment to sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking, the estate is quickly establishing itself as a rising star in Burgundy, attracting wine lovers and collectors worldwide.
