A musical journey before returning to viticultural roots
Before taking over the family estate, Jérôme Castagnier pursued a remarkable musical career. A graduate of the conservatories of Dijon and Paris, he served as a trumpeter in the prestigious Republican Guard Band, performing at the Élysée Palace under Presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy. In 2004, at the age of 26, he decided to return to Morey-Saint-Denis to continue the family winemaking tradition, becoming the fifth generation to lead the estate.
An estate rich in Grand Crus
Despite its modest size of four hectares, Domaine Jérôme Castagnier stands out for its exceptional proportion of Grand Cru parcels, representing half of its vineyard area. Among these prestigious terroirs are Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint-Denis, two emblematic appellations of Morey-Saint-Denis. This wealth of Grand Crus reflects the estate's commitment to producing wines of excellence.
Respectful viticultural practices and natural winemaking
Since 2013, Jérôme Castagnier has adopted a minimalist approach in the cellar, favoring the most natural winemaking processes possible. This includes the absence of chaptalization, acidification, fining, or filtration, allowing the wines to fully express the typicity of their terroirs. This philosophy reflects a desire to respect the integrity of the grape and the wine throughout the production process.
