A Centuries-Old Family Tradition
Domaine Thomas Morey is located in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy. Descended from a lineage of winemakers dating back to the 17th century, Thomas Morey established his own estate in 2006 alongside his wife Sylvie, after working with his father Bernard and brother Vincent. Together, they passionately cultivate 13 hectares of vineyards spread across the prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune.
An Organically Certified Vineyard
Faithful to his ancestors' traditional methods, Thomas Morey chose to eliminate herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers starting in 2011. This environmentally friendly approach led to organic certification in 2017. The vines, some planted in the 1950s and 1960s, are meticulously maintained to preserve biodiversity and promote the authentic expression of the terroirs.
Prestigious Appellations
The estate produces white wines from parcels located in Saint-Aubin, Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Puligny-Montrachet. The Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet, with vines approximately 70 years old, is one of the estate's jewels. The red wines come from parcels in Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet, Maranges, and Santenay, offering a rich and diverse range of renowned crus.
Winemaking Combining Tradition and Modernity
In the cellar, Thomas Morey favors spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts and avoids the use of sulfur during this phase. The white wines are aged on fine lees without bâtonnage, with a moderate proportion of new oak barrels (about 20%), to preserve the purity and typicity of the aromas. The red wines are generally destemmed, fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged in oak barrels for approximately nine months before bottling.
Wines Recognized for Their Purity and Finesse
Domaine Thomas Morey's wines stand out for their crystalline expression of the terroir, faithfully reflecting the unique characteristics of each parcel. The whites offer remarkable elegance and minerality, while the reds captivate with their finesse and balanced structure. This commitment to quality and respect for Burgundian traditions makes Domaine Thomas Morey an essential reference for fine wine enthusiasts.
