A winemaking heritage since 1610
Located in the picturesque village of Irancy in Burgundy, Domaine Richoux has been the cradle of a family winemaking tradition dating back to 1610. Today, Thierry Richoux, representing the tenth generation, continues this ancestral expertise alongside his sons, Gabin and Félix. Together, they passionately cultivate 20 hectares of vineyards, primarily dedicated to Pinot Noir, on steep slopes forming a natural amphitheater around the village.
A unique terroir with Chablis influences
Close to Chablis, the Irancy vineyard rests on soils rich in Kimmeridgian limestone, similar to those of its renowned neighbor. This geological composition imparts a distinctive minerality and remarkable aromatic complexity to the wines. The varied exposures of the plots, mainly facing south and west, promote optimal ripening of the grapes while preserving freshness and balance.
Organic and biodynamic viticulture
Committed to environmentally friendly practices, the Richoux family has adopted organic and biodynamic viticulture, achieving certification in 2013. This choice reflects their desire to preserve biodiversity and fully express the potential of their terroir. The soils are cultivated without chemical products, and harvesting is done manually, ensuring meticulous selection of the grapes.
Extended aging for harmonious wines
In the cellar, Domaine Richoux favors traditional vinification with spontaneous fermentations using indigenous yeasts. The wines undergo prolonged aging: the first year in tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit, followed by a second year in large oak foudres. This approach harmonizes the aromas and develops the depth and complexity characteristic of Irancy wines.
Signature cuvées reflecting the Irancy terroir
Among the estate's flagship wines, the Irancy "Les Cailles" stands out for its finesse and elegance, with notes of red fruits and a hint of spice. The "Veaupessiot" cuvée, from old vines with full southern exposure, offers a fuller structure and intense aromas of dark fruits. Each bottle from Domaine Richoux reflects a deep commitment to quality and authenticity, inviting enthusiasts to discover the richness and diversity of Irancy wines.
