A Family Estate in the Heart of Mâconnais
Perched atop the village of Fuissé, Château des Rontets is a family-run estate managed by Claire Gazeau and her husband, Fabio Montrasi, since 1995. Inherited from the Gazeau-Varambon family, this 6.5-hectare vineyard has been organically farmed since 2005, reflecting a deep respect for the environment and terroir.
Century-Old Vines and Sustainable Viticulture
The vineyard includes parcels planted as early as 1910, situated at an altitude of 350 meters. This elevation promotes slow ripening of the grapes, preserving natural acidity and aromatic complexity. The well-draining soils, composed of Jurassic limestone with layers of silt and clay, allow roots to delve deep, fully expressing the unique characteristics of the terroir.
Distinctive Cuvées: Clos Varambon and Pierrefolle
"Clos Varambon" originates from vines surrounding the château, offering a Pouilly-Fuissé with aromas of white flowers and fresh fruits, evolving into notes of dried fruits and spices over time. The nearby "Pierrefolle" parcel, distinguished by its granitic subsoil, produces wines with a distinct profile, marked by pronounced minerality and refreshing acidity.
Respectful and Minimalist Winemaking
In the cellar, fermentations are conducted with indigenous yeasts, without the addition of sugar or enzymes, allowing the wines to develop natural aromatic complexity. Aging on fine lees, without stirring, imparts texture and depth to the wines, which are neither fined nor filtered before bottling, preserving their integrity and authenticity.
Commitment to Biodiversity and Tradition
Beyond organic farming, the estate employs practices such as horse plowing, promoting biodiversity and soil health. This dedication to traditional and sustainable methods is reflected in authentic wines that truly express the terroir of Fuissé and the Saint-Amour appellation.
