Château des Quarts: A Historic Gem of Pouilly-Fuissé in Chaintré

An Exceptional Terroir in the Heart of the Mâconnais

Located in the village of Chaintré, the southernmost part of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, Château des Quarts enjoys a privileged position. The vineyard, covering a total area of 2.65 hectares, is planted on clay-limestone soils, providing an ideal environment for vines to produce wines of great finesse and complexity.

Century-Old Vines and Traditional Expertise

Among the estate's parcels, some vines were planted in 1917, reflecting a rich and preserved viticultural heritage. These old vines, cultivated using organic practices (not certified), are hand-harvested to ensure optimal grape quality. This respectful approach to the vine and terroir is evident in the authenticity and depth of the wines produced.

Winemaking Combining Tradition and Modernity

In the cellar, grapes are pressed whole cluster, and fermentations occur with indigenous yeasts, promoting a pure expression of the terroir. The wines are then aged in oak barrels, with a small proportion of new wood, as well as in stainless steel tanks, preserving the balance between freshness and aromatic complexity. This meticulous winemaking method ensures harmonious wines that faithfully reflect their origin.

Exceptional Cuvées: "Clos des Quarts" and "L'Orangerie"

Château des Quarts offers two emblematic cuvées. The "Clos des Quarts," from the estate's oldest vines, presents intense stone fruit aromas and pronounced minerality, with remarkable aging potential. "L'Orangerie," sourced from younger parcels, delights with its freshness, floral notes, and roundness on the palate, offering an elegant and accessible expression of the Chaintré terroir.

Founded in 2012 by longtime friends Dominique Lafon and Olivier Merlin, Château des Quarts emerged from their shared passion for great Burgundy wines. Together, they combined their skills and experience to unveil the full potential of this exceptional terroir, producing wines renowned for their elegance and authenticity.
