A Historic Estate in the Heart of Burgundy
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, Château de la Maltroye has been a family-owned estate since 1941. Its striking 18th-century château, with its distinctive Burgundian glazed tile roof, houses 15th-century vaulted cellars, providing the perfect environment for aging wines. The château is a testament to centuries of winemaking heritage.
An Exceptional Vineyard
The estate spans 15 hectares, including 13 hectares in Chassagne-Montrachet and 2 hectares in Santenay. Uniquely, 70% of its vineyards are classified as Premier Cru, making Château de la Maltroye one of the key producers in Côte de Beaune. The vineyard is planted with 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, producing wines that perfectly capture the essence of their terroirs.
A Commitment to Quality and Tradition
For decades, the estate has been managed by Jean-Pierre Cornut, who has skillfully blended tradition with modern winemaking techniques to craft precise, elegant wines. The viticulture follows sustainable practices, including soil plowing, minimal chemical treatments, and strict yield control. Manual harvesting ensures that only the finest grapes are selected.
Meticulous Winemaking for Exceptional Wines
The white wines are vinified with a focus on preserving their freshness, tension, and minerality. They age on fine lees in French oak barrels, with a balanced use of new wood to enhance, rather than overshadow, the terroir’s expression. The red wines undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by 14 months of barrel aging, resulting in structured, elegant wines with excellent aging potential.
Iconic Cuvées Recognized Worldwide
Among the estate’s most prestigious wines are Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "La Romanée", Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "Les Grandes Ruchottes", and the Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru "Clos du Château de la Maltroye", a monopole of the estate. These wines are celebrated for their depth, aromatic complexity, and finesse, captivating wine lovers and collectors worldwide.
