A Family-Owned Estate Rooted in Champagne History
Founded in 1795, Champagne Nowack is located in Vandières, at the heart of the Marne Valley. For over two centuries, the Nowack family has preserved a winemaking tradition that blends respect for terroir with modern craftsmanship. Today, Flavien Nowack, representing the ninth generation, leads the estate with a commitment to sustainable and artisanal viticulture, crafting champagnes that reflect the purity of their origins.
An Exceptional Terroir in the Marne Valley
The estate spans 7 hectares, set on clay-limestone soils characteristic of the Marne Valley. Pinot Meunier, the emblematic grape of the region, dominates at 75%, complemented by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Each vineyard plot is meticulously farmed to enhance biodiversity and showcase the unique expression of its terroir.
A Strong Commitment to Sustainable Viticulture
Flavien Nowack has initiated a transition to organic farming and integrates biodynamic principles, fostering healthy soils and balanced vines. No herbicides or synthetic pesticides are used, and harvesting is done manually to preserve the grapes' integrity. The estate also embraces a low-intervention winemaking approach, minimizing enological inputs to let the wines develop naturally.
Single-Vineyard Cuvées Showcasing Terroir
Each Champagne Nowack cuvée is vinified separately to highlight its specific terroir. Les Bauchets, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir, delivers structure, elegance, and a striking mineral tension. La Tuilerie, made entirely from Chardonnay, charms with its finesse and vibrant notes of peach and citrus. Les Arpents Rouges, a zero-sulfur cuvée, embodies the purest expression of the vineyard, revealing precision through a minimalist winemaking approach.
Natural and Authentic Winemaking
Fermentations are carried out using indigenous yeasts, without chaptalization or filtration. To preserve aromatic purity, the secondary fermentation is initiated with unfermented grape must, ensuring a fine and elegant effervescence. The wines are aged under cork, allowing gradual micro-oxygenation that refines their texture and complexity.
A Rising Star in the Champagne World
Through his meticulous approach and dedication to terroir-driven champagnes, Flavien Nowack has gained recognition among wine enthusiasts and critics worldwide. His limited-production cuvées are highly sought after for their precision and authenticity. By merging ancestral savoir-faire with forward-thinking innovation, Nowack is positioning itself among the new generation of Champagne winemakers, where transparency and terroir take precedence over standardized blends.
