A Family Heritage Rooted in Champagne Tradition
The Larmandier-Bernier estate traces its origins to the union of two winemaking families in 1971. Since then, it has established itself as a benchmark in Champagne, passionately cultivating vineyards primarily located in the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, such as Cramant, Chouilly, Oger, and Avize, as well as in the Premier Cru village of Vertus. This family heritage, passed down through generations, is marked by an unwavering pursuit of excellence and a deep passion for the Champagne craft.
Biodynamic Viticulture Respectful of the Terroir
Pioneers in adopting environmentally friendly practices, the Larmandier family converted their vineyard to organic farming in 1992, followed by biodynamics in 1999. This approach aims to enhance the expression of the terroir by promoting living soils and vines in perfect harmony with their environment. Controlled yields and an average vine age of over 35 years contribute to the exceptional quality of the harvested grapes.
Natural Winemaking for Authentic Champagnes
In the cellar, the philosophy is to allow the wine to express itself as naturally as possible. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged on fine lees for nearly 11 months in oak barrels and stainless steel tanks. There is no filtration or fining, preserving the wine’s integrity and purity. Dosage is kept to a minimum, often below 4 grams per liter, highlighting the signature minerality and freshness of the Côte des Blancs.
Iconic Cuvées Showcasing Terroir Expression
Larmandier-Bernier’s range of champagnes is a tribute to the complexity of their terroir. Latitude, made exclusively from Chardonnay grown in southern Vertus, offers a generous and rounded expression of the grape variety. Longitude, blending Chardonnay from Vertus, Oger, Avize, and Cramant, is characterized by its precision and chalky minerality. The single-vineyard cuvées, such as Les Chemins d’Avize and Vieille Vigne du Levant, highlight the individuality of specific plots, producing champagnes of remarkable depth and finesse.
International Recognition and a Commitment to Sustainability
Thanks to its dedication to excellence, Larmandier-Bernier is now present in some of the world’s finest restaurants and sought after by discerning wine lovers. The elegance and complexity of each cuvée reflect a unique savoir-faire, where family heritage meets a forward-thinking vision. In 2023, the estate was among the first to receive the prestigious Robert Parker Green Emblem, recognizing producers who are committed to outstanding sustainable viticulture.
