A Family Heritage Since the 19th Century

Established in the late 19th century, Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy is led by Gérard Harmand and his son Philippe. Together, they uphold the family's winemaking traditions, passionately cultivating vines exclusively within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. This generational continuity reflects a deep commitment to the terroir and the quality of the wines produced.

A Vineyard Exclusively Dedicated to Pinot Noir

The estate spans 9 hectares, entirely planted with Pinot Noir, across prestigious parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin. Notable crus include Premier Crus such as "Les Champeaux," "La Bossière" (a monopole of the estate), and "Lavaux Saint-Jacques," as well as renowned Grand Crus. This variety of terroirs enables the estate to offer a range of wines that express the richness and complexity of the Côte de Nuits soils.

Traditional and Environmentally Respectful Viticulture

Adhering to traditional methods, Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy practices sustainable viticulture. The soil is worked manually or with tractors, avoiding the use of herbicides and insecticides, thus promoting deep root growth and preserving biodiversity. Harvesting is done by hand, ensuring a meticulous selection of grapes for optimal wine quality.

Precise Vinification for Exceptional Wines

Following manual harvesting and careful sorting, the grapes are fully destemmed. A five-day cold maceration precedes spontaneous fermentation, lasting 15 to 21 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. During this process, gentle extractions help to enhance the structure and complexity of the wines. Aging occurs in oak barrels for 12 to 16 months, with the proportion of new oak varying by cuvée: 20 to 40% for village and Premier Crus wines, and up to 80% for Grand Crus. The wines are bottled without filtration, preserving their purity, depth, and aging potential.

Wines Reflecting the Essence of Gevrey-Chambertin

Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy's wines are distinguished by their aromatic richness, elegant structure, and remarkable longevity. Each cuvée faithfully expresses the unique characteristics of its terroir, offering aromas of red and black fruits, delicate spices, and a distinct mineral touch. The estate's Grand Crus are known for their depth and complexity, while the Premier Crus and village-level wines provide a more approachable yet equally refined expression of Gevrey-Chambertin. These wines are sought after by collectors and connoisseurs worldwide, confirming the estate’s status as a reference in Burgundy winemaking.

A Legacy of Excellence and a Promising Future

With a rich history and an unwavering commitment to quality, Domaine Harmand-Geoffroy continues to shine among the finest estates in the Côte de Nuits. Philippe Harmand, now at the helm, ensures that each vintage respects the legacy of his ancestors while embracing innovation where necessary. The estate’s wines, highly regarded by critics and wine enthusiasts alike, are found on prestigious tables and in the cellars of passionate collectors. As the domaine moves forward, its dedication to authenticity and excellence remains unchanged, securing its place as a jewel of Gevrey-Chambertin.
