A project born from friendship and passion
L’Infernal was founded in the early 2000s by three passionate French winemakers: Dominique Huber, Laurent Combier, and Jean-Michel Gerin. Coming from prestigious wine regions such as the Rhône and Roussillon, they united around a shared dream—to explore the unique terroir of Priorat in Catalonia. The name “L’Infernal” reflects both the harshness of the terrain and the raw, awe-inspiring beauty of the landscape.
A volcanic, rugged terroir
The estate’s vineyards lie on steep, terraced slopes at 300–500 meters altitude, planted in the region’s iconic “llicorella” slate soils. These extreme conditions, paired with a dry Mediterranean climate, produce naturally concentrated grapes and a pure expression of the terroir. Yields are low, but the resulting wines are intense, structured, and vibrant.
Local Mediterranean grapes at their best
L’Infernal focuses on traditional Priorat varieties: Garnacha (Grenache), Cariñena (Carignan), and Syrah. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve its unique character. The red wines are powerful yet refined, with notes of dark fruit, spices, licorice, and minerality. Some cuvées are aged in large oak vats or amphorae to enhance texture and depth.
A precise and artisanal approach
The vineyards are farmed with environmental care, avoiding excessive intervention and encouraging natural balance. In the cellar, the winemaking is low-intervention, allowing the grape and terroir to fully express themselves. The result is a collection of sincere, expressive wines that combine strength with elegance.
L’Infernal, a rising star in Priorat
In just two decades, L’Infernal has become one of Priorat’s most distinctive and respected estates. Its rare, sought-after wines are praised for their precision and depth. This is a bold, modern interpretation of one of Spain’s most extreme and captivating wine regions.
