What is Estate Pichat and why is it unique

Located in Ampuis, at the heart of Côte-Rôtie, Estate Pichat is a small, family-run domaine producing expressive and authentic Northern Rhône wines. Since 2000, Corinne and Julien Pichat have embraced a patient, detail-oriented approach focused on precision, terroir expression and artisanal care. With around 10 hectares of vineyards on the steep slopes of the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde, the estate practices separate vinification for each parcel, tailoring aging to the character of each wine. This meticulous work results in cuvées that are deeply rooted and full of personality.

Which grape varieties are grown at Estate Pichat

Syrah is the estate’s sole red grape, with small amounts of Viognier occasionally co-fermented in traditional Côte-Rôtie style. Vines are farmed sustainably without chemical herbicides or pesticides, and harvest is always done by hand. The estate also produces Syrah under the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes label, offering more approachable expressions with the same care and precision. Vinification uses gentle extractions and aging in stainless steel, barrels and demi-muids as needed, always preserving the identity of each plot.

What wine style defines Estate Pichat

Pichat wines are structured yet elegant, with vibrant fruit and refined textures. The Syrahs display aromas of ripe blackberries, violets, incense, graphite, and sometimes leather or black olive. On the palate, they offer density and finesse, supported by fine tannins and a fresh mineral backbone. Each cuvée—such as “Champon’s”, “Loss”, “Cœur de Valloire” or “Promesse”—offers a unique interpretation of the terroir. These are wines that age well, but are also approachable when young thanks to their purity and balance.

What food pairings go well with wines from Estate Pichat

The Côte-Rôtie wines pair beautifully with refined dishes: beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, mushroom-based dishes or roasted root vegetables. Their elegance also suits gentle spice or sophisticated vegetarian cuisine. The IGP cuvées are perfect with bistro fare: pâtés, grilled poultry, charcuterie or aged cheeses. These are food-friendly wines made for pleasure and thoughtful dining alike.

Why are wines from Estate Pichat so appreciated

Because they combine integrity, precision and authenticity. Julien Pichat crafts wines that reflect a deep understanding of place, creating Syrah that is vibrant, sincere and firmly rooted in its origin. With growing recognition among sommeliers and wine lovers, Estate Pichat represents the best of small-scale Côte-Rôtie: expressive, elegant, and made with purpose. A rising star in the Northern Rhône.
