A Committed and Visionary Vigneronne

Valérie Frison is a leading figure in the Côte des Bar, an increasingly recognized region in southern Champagne. In 1997, she took over her family’s vineyards in Ville-sur-Arce, initially dedicated to supplying grapes to the local cooperative. Determined to craft wines that reflect the purity of the land, she transitioned to organic viticulture in 2003 and achieved certification in 2007. This pivotal decision set the foundation for her philosophy: producing natural, expressive champagnes that respect both the environment and tradition.

A Vineyard in Perfect Harmony with Nature

The estate spans six hectares, primarily planted with Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape of the Côte des Bar. The vines, over 30 years old, grow on clay-limestone soils rich in Kimmeridgian marl, a geological structure also found in Chablis, which imparts unique minerality and structure to the wines. By eliminating synthetic chemicals and promoting biodiversity, Valérie ensures that her champagnes express the true character of their terroir.

Signature Cuvées: A Pure Expression of Champagne

Each of Val Frison’s champagnes tells a story of precision and authenticity. The signature cuvée, “Goustan”, is a Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature made entirely from Pinot Noir. This wine offers aromas of ripe orchard fruits, spice, and a long, saline finish. Another standout, “Lalore”, is a Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature crafted from Chardonnay aged in old Chablis barrels, bringing out bright citrus notes and striking mineral depth. All champagnes are vinified naturally, with no dosage, no filtration, and minimal sulfur, allowing the raw beauty of the fruit to shine.

A New Chapter: The Next Generation

In 2018, Valérie’s son, Thomas de Marne, joined the estate alongside his partner Florie Pilares. Together, they brought fresh energy while staying true to Valérie’s commitment to purity and terroir expression. By 2020, Thomas had fully taken over, renaming the estate Champagne Thomas de Marne. While the iconic cuvées like “Goustan” and “Lalore” remain, new additions such as “Holistique” and “L’Éclos de la Côte” reflect the evolution of their winemaking philosophy.

International Recognition for Natural Champagne

Valérie Frison’s champagnes have gained a devoted following, particularly among enthusiasts of natural wines. Their energy, purity, and ability to translate terroir into every sip have made them favorites among sommeliers and collectors alike. Her pioneering work has inspired a new wave of Champagne growers to embrace organic and biodynamic farming, cementing her legacy as a key figure in modern Champagne.
