Corton-Charlemagne 2020
A Historic and Prestigious Estate
Located in Pernand-Vergelesses on the famous Corton Hill, Bonneau du Martray Estate is one of Burgundy’s most esteemed vineyards. Founded in the 19th century, it remained in the le Bault de la Morinière family for generations until its acquisition by American businessman Stan Kroenke in 2017. What sets this estate apart is its unique focus: it exclusively produces wines from Grand Cru vineyards, a rarity in Burgundy.
An Exceptional Terroir: Corton-Charlemagne and Corton
The estate covers 11 hectares, with 9.5 hectares dedicated to Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, exclusively planted with Chardonnay, and 1.5 hectares to Corton Grand Cru, planted with Pinot Noir. The vineyards benefit from an exceptional exposure, with marl and limestone soils that impart remarkable elegance, minerality, and complexity to the wines.
Biodynamic Viticulture and a Commitment to Sustainability
Dedicated to preserving the terroir, Bonneau du Martray adopted biodynamic farming in the early 2000s under the guidance of Jean-Charles le Bault de la Morinière. This approach ensures the vineyard’s full expression by fostering a natural balance between the vines and their environment. Today, this philosophy continues to be rigorously applied, producing pure and vibrant wines.
Wines Renowned for Their Finesse and Longevity
The estate’s Corton-Charlemagne is celebrated for its complex aromatic profile, blending white fruits, citrus, and flint notes with a rich texture and a lingering finish. The Corton red stands out for its depth, silky tannic structure, and exceptional aging potential. These wines rank among Burgundy’s most sought-after references, attracting collectors and wine enthusiasts worldwide.
A Future Focused on Excellence
Since its acquisition by Stan Kroenke, owner of Screaming Eagle Winery in California, the estate has continued to evolve with significant investments aimed at further refining its wines. In 2018, part of the Corton-Charlemagne vineyard was leased to the prestigious Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, underscoring the unparalleled quality of Bonneau du Martray’s terroir. This ongoing pursuit of perfection ensures a bright future for the estate in the world of fine Burgundy wines.
