A remarkable journey dedicated to the vine
In 1977, Philippe Charlopin embarked on his winemaking journey with just one and a half hectares of vines in Gevrey-Chambertin. A student of the legendary Henri Jayer, he was influenced by his mentor’s meticulous and bold approach to winemaking. Through hard work and vision, he gradually expanded his estate, which now spans 25 hectares across the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, and Chablis.
Exceptional terroirs, a diverse range of cuvées
The estate boasts outstanding vineyard plots that showcase Burgundy’s rich diversity. Among its flagship wines, the Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes captivates with its depth and dark fruit aromas. The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru embodies power and structure, while the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru combines finesse with a long, elegant finish. Each parcel is carefully tended to create wines that are both refined and expressive.
Precise winemaking for outstanding wines
Philippe and his son Yann follow a winemaking philosophy centered on respect for the fruit and terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood adjusted to each vintage to maintain the perfect balance between intensity and elegance. This expertise results in complex wines with great aging potential.
Acclaimed by critics and wine lovers alike
The wines of the Philippe Charlopin Estate are consistently praised for their precision and consistency. They appeal to both collectors and enthusiasts seeking exceptional Burgundy wines. Their ability to age gracefully over time makes them a sought-after reference on the finest gastronomic tables and among connoisseurs worldwide.
A domaine constantly evolving
With Yann Charlopin now part of the estate, the family’s expertise continues to be passed down, while modern techniques further refine the quality of the wines. This synergy between tradition and innovation ensures the estate’s longevity and reinforces its reputation as a leading name in Burgundy. Each vintage reflects this commitment to excellence and respect for an exceptional winemaking heritage.
