A Family Heritage Dedicated to Burgundy
Domaine Bertrand and Axelle Machard de Gramont is the proud inheritor of a long-standing winemaking tradition. In the 1960s and 1970s, the family owned an extensive 32-hectare vineyard spanning the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Today, Bertrand and his daughter Axelle continue this legacy, cultivating 20 hectares with a strong commitment to terroir preservation and winemaking excellence.
A Mosaic of Unique Terroirs
Stretching over fifty kilometers, the estate benefits from an incredible diversity of soils. From Chenôve in the north to Puligny-Montrachet in the south, each parcel sits on a unique geological foundation, primarily composed of clay and limestone. These natural conditions, combined with varied vineyard exposures, result in wines of extraordinary depth and complexity.
Sustainable Viticulture and Environmental Commitment
Mindful of their environmental impact, Bertrand and Axelle have adopted sustainable viticultural practices. The estate promotes biodiversity, minimizes chemical treatments, and prioritizes mechanical soil work. With an average vine age of 30 years, meticulous vineyard management ensures optimal fruit quality. All grapes are hand-harvested, allowing for rigorous selection and peak ripeness.
Masterful Winemaking for Outstanding Wines
At the estate’s historic cellars in Prissey, near Nuits-Saint-Georges, winemaking is carried out with the utmost precision. Fermentation is slow and natural, with 10 to 20% whole clusters used in the reds to enhance complexity. Aging occurs in French and American oak barrels, with 10 to 25% new oak, ensuring harmonious maturation while preserving fruit purity.
A Vision for the Future
With an unwavering commitment to quality and sustainability, Bertrand and Axelle Machard de Gramont continue to refine their craft. By blending tradition with innovation, they ensure the longevity of their estate and the production of wines that authentically represent Burgundy’s finest terroirs.
