The Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation

The Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation is located in the Côte de Nuits, south of the famous city of Dijon, and is one of the most renowned in the Burgundy region. This vineyard is distinguished by the production of powerful red wines, mainly from pinot noir, and a few white wines, from chardonnay. With 300 hectares of vines, 140 of which are Premier Cru, Nuits-Saint-Georges is a benchmark in Burgundy.

Climate and Terroir of Nuits-Saint-Georges

The semi-continental climate, characterized by hot summers and harsh winters, is ideal for Pinot Noir ripening. The terroir is varied, with soils composed mainly of clay and limestone, favoring wines of great richness and complexity. Parcels at higher altitudes, notably the Premiers Crus, benefit from optimal exposure, offering additional elegance and finesse.

Specificity of Nuits-Saint-Georges wines

The red wines of Nuits-Saint-Georges are renowned for their robustness, with aromas of black fruits such as cherry and blackberry, spicy notes and sometimes hints of truffle and leather after several years of cellaring. They are powerful and tannic in their youth, but gain in refinement and complexity with age. White wines, though rarer, are distinguished by their minerality and freshness. Nuits-Saint-Georges wines enjoy a strong international reputation, regularly appearing on the finest tables and in the cellars of connoisseurs of fine wines. They are highly prized for their ability to age well and develop more complex aromas over time.
