A Partnership of Talents Dedicated to Malbec
Founded in 1999 by Matthieu Cosse and Catherine Maisonneuve, Domaine Cosse-Maisonneuve emerged from the shared passion of two visionary oenologists eager to unlock Malbec’s full potential in Cahors. Convinced that this grape could yield wines of great finesse, they adopted environmentally friendly viticulture, embracing biodynamics. Today, the estate stands as a benchmark for the appellation, attracting wine lovers seeking authenticity and emotion.
An Exceptional Terroir Cultivated Biodynamically
Located in Lacapelle-Cabanac, the estate spans 24 hectares on siderolithic and clay-gravel soils, among the finest terroirs of Cahors. From its inception, the estate committed to organic farming and later obtained biodynamic certification. No synthetic chemicals are used, and vineyard work follows natural cycles. This approach enhances the wines' energy and purity, allowing the terroir to shine through in every bottle.
Minimal Intervention Winemaking for Precision Wines
In the cellar, winemaking is as natural as possible. Fermentations occur exclusively with indigenous yeasts, without additives. Gentle extractions preserve the fruit’s elegance and avoid excessive tannins. Aging takes place in concrete vats, large wooden casks, or barrels, depending on the desired profile. This philosophy results in Cahors wines of remarkable finesse, breaking away from the rustic stereotypes historically associated with the appellation.
Flagship Cuvées Representing Cahors' Revival
Domaine Cosse-Maisonneuve offers a range of cuvées showcasing different expressions of Malbec. "Le Combal" is a juicy, fruit-forward wine, perfect for an approachable take on the grape. "Les Laquets" delivers a deeper and more complex expression, with silky tannins and a long finish. "La Marguerite," made from old vines, embodies the ultimate Cahors Malbec: powerful, refined, and built for aging. Each cuvée reflects meticulous craftsmanship, respecting both the grape and the terroir.
Unanimous Acclaim for Exceptional Wines
Thanks to its commitment to clean viticulture and precise winemaking, Domaine Cosse-Maisonneuve is now widely recognized by critics. Its wines are consistently praised by the Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France from La Revue du Vin de France, which awarded the estate two stars and called it a "very great domain." This recognition cements Cosse-Maisonneuve’s place among the top Cahors producers, making its wines a must for Malbec lovers.
