A family estate in the heart of Costières de Nîmes
Château Mourgues du Grès is located in Beaucaire, in the southern Rhône Valley, within the Costières de Nîmes appellation. Run by Anne and François Collard, the estate is set in former religious buildings surrounded by sun-drenched vineyards. Its name refers to the nuns who once lived there (“mourgues” in Provençal) and the rolled pebbles (“grès”) that cover the soils.
A sun-soaked terroir refreshed by sea breezes
The vineyard is planted on Rhône river stones over marl and limestone subsoils. While the climate is typically Mediterranean, cooling breezes from the nearby sea bring freshness and balance. This unique combination allows for expressive red wines, vibrant whites, and elegant rosés full of southern charm.
Certified organic and committed to biodiversity
Château Mourgues du Grès is certified organic and practices environmentally respectful viticulture. No herbicides or synthetic chemicals are used, and the soils are worked manually or mechanically. Harvesting is done by hand, and great care is taken to encourage biodiversity and soil life. The result is healthy, expressive fruit ready to become characterful wines.
Wines of clarity, drinkability, and energy
Winemaking is gentle and minimalist, preserving the natural balance of the grapes. Fermentations are cool, extractions are soft, and oak is used with restraint. The wines are known for their freshness, elegance, and ability to reflect the vintage and terroir. Cuvées like Terre d’Argence and Les Galets exemplify this luminous, refined style.
A leading and inspiring estate in its region
Château Mourgues du Grès has become one of the most respected and forward-thinking producers in Costières de Nîmes. Its dedication to quality, environmental care, and expressive winemaking makes it a must-know name for anyone interested in authentic southern Rhône wines.
