A Family Heritage Dedicated to Champagne
Founded in 1872 by Lucien Leclerc, Maison Leclerc Briant has built a legacy of passion and innovation in the heart of Champagne. Located in Épernay, the estate has gained renown through generations, standing as a bold house committed to purity and authenticity. In 1955, Bertrand Leclerc and Jacqueline Briant brought a new dimension to the estate by transforming it into a trading house, while preserving its artisanal values. This heritage of craftsmanship and dedication continues today, with an unwavering respect for nature and terroir.
A Visionary Approach to Biodynamics
As a pioneer in sustainable viticulture, Leclerc Briant embraced organic farming as early as the 1960s. At a time when few Champagne houses were challenging conventional practices, it took a bold step toward eliminating chemical inputs, focusing on living soils and natural balance. The journey toward a more respectful viticulture intensified in the 1980s, when Pascal Leclerc introduced biodynamic principles to the estate. By 2003, part of the production earned Demeter certification, reinforcing the house’s commitment to enhancing terroir expression through holistic farming.
Exceptional Terroirs and Natural Winemaking
The estate spans 14 hectares, covering Premier Cru villages like Cumières, Hautvillers, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, and Bisseuil, as well as prestigious Grand Cru terroirs such as Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant. Each vineyard is cultivated using strict biodynamic methods, yielding grapes of remarkable purity and depth. Under the guidance of Hervé Jestin, the cellar follows a minimalist and intuitive approach. Spontaneous fermentations with native yeasts, aging in stainless steel, oak barrels, and clay amphorae, as well as an absence of fining or filtration, allow for wines that fully express their origins.
Champagnes that Capture the Soul of the Terroir
Each Leclerc Briant cuvée is a unique creation, capturing the energy of the land. The Brut Réserve, blending Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay, introduces the house’s signature style with impressive minerality and depth. The experimental Abyss, aged underwater, stands out with its silky texture and fascinating salinity. Single-vineyard champagnes further highlight the estate’s commitment to showcasing Champagne’s most distinctive expressions.
A House of Rising Global Recognition
Once a well-kept secret among connoisseurs, Leclerc Briant is now earning worldwide acclaim for its avant-garde approach. As a leader in sustainable Champagne, it invites wine lovers to rediscover terroir in its purest, most vibrant form.
