Description of Château Rayne Vigneau Sauternes

Estate

Château Rayne Vigneau is a prestigious estate within the Sauternes appellation, renowned for producing quality sweet wines. Located in the Bordeaux region, this historic estate is known for the typical finesse and expression of its wines. Its unique terroir favors the development of botrytis cinerea, which is essential for crafting Sauternes wines.

Vineyard

The vineyard, in the Bordeaux subregion, is primarily planted with Sémillon, Muscadelle, and Sauvignon grapes. These varieties are carefully selected to achieve a perfect balance between aromatic richness, sweetness, and freshness. The oceanic climate helps the development of noble rot, a key factor for wine quality.

Wine

The 2015 Sauternes perfectly reflects the distinctive style of Château Rayne Vigneau, showing intense aromatic concentration and fine complexity. The wine develops around fruity and floral notes, enhanced by the botrytis richness. It offers a smooth palate and a persistent finish, result of rigorous winemaking.

Vintage

The 2015 vintage is considered exceptional at Sauternes, thanks to favorable climatic conditions allowing slow and optimal grape ripening. This vintage offers a very good balance between freshness and sweetness, with remarkable aging potential. The 2015 wines from Château Rayne Vigneau are notably intense and elegant. Vinification and Aging

The vinification involves a strict hand selection of botrytized clusters to ensure optimum quality. Aging is done in oak barrels for about 18 months, providing subtle structure without masking freshness. This process develops fine aromatic complexity while preserving the wine's natural balance.

Sémillon, Muscadelle, Sauvignon

Characteristics & Tasting

Tasting

  • Appearance: Bright golden yellow color, clear and luminous.
  • Nose: Complex and expressive with aromas of honey, candied apricot, white flowers, and a touch of vanilla.
  • Palate: Rich and creamy, revealing flavors of dried fruits, gentle spices, balanced by a lively acidity against the sweetness.

Serving

Serve between 8 and 10°C. Light decanting can be considered to reveal aromatic complexity, especially if the wine is young.

Food Pairings

This 2015 Sauternes pairs excellently with seared foie gras, lightly sautéed scallops, aged Roquefort cheese, or a fresh mango-based dessert.

Occasions

Perfect for festive meals such as Christmas or New Year’s Eve celebrations, wedding anniversaries, or refined business dinners.

Aging Potential

This wine can be enjoyed now but is expected to reach its peak between 2025 and 2040. It has a high aging potential characteristic of fine Sauternes.
