What is Estate Sérol and why is it unique

Estate Sérol is located in Renaison, at the heart of the Côte Roannaise—an under-the-radar appellation at the southeastern edge of the Loire Valley. Since the early 2000s, Stéphane and Carine Sérol have revitalized this high-altitude vineyard area, farming granite slopes up to 500 meters above sea level. Through organic and now biodynamic practices, they have become the undisputed reference for this terroir. Their vision is rooted in freshness and precision, crafting Gamay wines that are pure, expressive and full of energy.

Which grape variety is grown at Estate Sérol

The flagship grape is Gamay Saint-Romain, a local strain of Gamay Noir ideally suited to the region’s granite soils and cool climate. It produces wines that are bright, floral and mineral, with remarkable finesse. All grapes are hand-harvested, and vinification is low-intervention to preserve fruit and terroir. While the estate makes a few white and rosé cuvées, its heart lies in red wines that showcase the Gamay grape in its most vivid form.

What wine style defines Estate Sérol

The wines are light in body but deep in flavor. The reds are juicy, with aromas of raspberry, cherry and peony, framed by lively acidity and soft tannins. They are linear, vibrant and elegant—focused on precision rather than power. Parcel selections like “Éclat de Granit”, “Les Millerands” and “Côte 300” offer added depth and aging potential. These are lively, drinkable wines that appeal to fans of freshness and terroir-driven style.

What food pairings go well with wines from Estate Sérol

The fresh, fruit-forward reds pair beautifully with charcuterie, roast chicken, quiche, grilled vegetables or casual French fare. Their soft tannins and acidity also suit duck breast, veal roast or gently spiced dishes. Served slightly chilled, they’re ideal in summer but hold their own on an autumnal table. These are versatile, friendly wines that shine in both everyday and refined contexts.

Why are wines from Estate Sérol so appreciated

Estate Sérol is admired for its honest, precise and energetic wines that bring new life to an overlooked region. Stéphane and Carine have shown that the Côte Roannaise is capable of greatness, thanks to their deep respect for nature, granite terroir and the expressive potential of Gamay. Their biodynamic commitment, parcel selection and pursuit of freshness have made the domaine a favorite among sommeliers and adventurous wine lovers. A high-altitude Gamay with real soul.
