A Family Legacy in the Heart of Burgundy

Méo-Camuzet Estate traces its origins back to the early 20th century, when Étienne Camuzet, then a deputy of the Côte d'Or, acquired parcels in Burgundy’s most prestigious vineyards. A passionate viticulturist, he assembled an extraordinary estate, including holdings in the famed Clos de Vougeot. Upon his passing in 1946, his daughter Maria Noirot-Camuzet inherited the estate. Without direct heirs, she entrusted it to her nephew, Jean Méo, in 1959. Despite his political career, Jean Méo was committed to preserving the family’s winemaking heritage, relying on talented sharecroppers, including the legendary Burgundy vigneron Henri Jayer.

In 1984, Jean Méo gradually passed the reins to his son, Jean-Nicolas Méo. Jean-Nicolas Méo follows a minimally interventionist approach, allowing each vineyard to speak for itself. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted at the vine. Depending on the vintage, whole-cluster fermentation is employed to enhance structure and aromatic complexity. The wines undergo 15 to 18 months of aging in oak barrels, with precise use of new wood, ranging from 50 to 100% depending on the cuvée. This method ensures a perfect balance between elegance and power.
