Is this wine a suitable choice to celebrate a birth in 1989?

Appearance: Deep golden yellow with amber highlights indicative of its noble age.
Nose: Complex aromas of honey, candied apricot, dried fruits, and delicate spicy notes.
Palate: Creamy and full-bodied, with a fine acidity balancing the sweetness, and a long, persistent finish.

The 1989 vintage makes it a choice connected to that birth year. However, this symbolic link does not make it possible to predict the bottle's current condition, as its storage history is not specified.

Can you choose the 1989 rather than the 2015 for its taste profile?

No tasting notes are provided to compare these two vintages. It would therefore be difficult to recommend the 1989 over the 2015 based on criteria such as richness, freshness, or aromas.

Could this bottle serve as a starting point for a vertical tasting of Château d'Yquem?

Yes, the 1989 can be compared with the 2005, 2009, 2011, and 2015 vintages mentioned for the same Château d'Yquem. This comparison allows the tasting to focus on different vintages from the same estate, without presuming any differences in their taste profiles.

Does the 1989 vintage guarantee a very evolved wine profile?

The year alone is not enough to describe this bottle's current profile. Without a tasting note or information about its storage, it is not possible to say what aromas it will display or how evolved it will be.

What should you ask before planning to open this bottle?

Ask for details about its storage history and condition, as well as serving advice suited to this bottle. The information provided is not enough to recommend decanting or a specific temperature.
