Does Château d'Yquem 2009 risk feeling too heavy on the palate?

Appearance: Deep and bright golden color.
Nose: Intense aromas of honey, candied apricot, white flowers, and subtle vanilla notes.
Palate: Powerful and balanced with a good acidity, revealing tropical fruit notes, caramel, and a long elegant finish.

Its power and richness are complemented by lovely acidity, which balances the palate. It is therefore suited to those looking for a full-bodied, intense sweet wine with a long, elegant finish.

Why choose this 2009 to pair with pan-seared foie gras and caramelized apples?

Its notes of candied fruit and caramel echo the caramelized apples. Its lovely acidity provides a counterpoint to the richness of this pairing, which is expressly recommended for this bottle.

Is the 2009 vintage suitable if I'm mainly looking for aromas of ripe, candied fruit?

Yes: this vintage benefited from conditions that allowed the grapes to ripen perfectly. The nose of candied apricot and the tropical fruits on the palate meet this expectation, complemented by white flowers and a hint of vanilla.

Can this Sauternes accompany roast woodcock with mild spices?

Yes, roast woodcock with mild spices is among the recommended pairings. The wine's power makes it a good match for this characterful dish, while its notes of honey, candied fruit and caramel extend the spices' sweet profile.

Would this bottle be a suitable centerpiece for a festive holiday dinner?

A New Year's Eve dinner is one of the recommended occasions for this Château d'Yquem. Its aromatic complexity and great length make it a bottle to showcase alongside a carefully chosen dish, such as pan-seared foie gras with caramelized apples, rather than serving without considering the menu.
