The Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru appellation
The Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru appellation, located in the Côte de Beaune region, embodies the excellence of Burgundy wines. The Premier Cru parcels are located on slopes with ideal exposure, between 200 and 300 meters above sea level. The soil is mainly clay-limestone, rich in pebbles, which favors excellent drainage and optimal ripening of the grapes, especially for Pinot Noir, the appellation's majority grape variety.
The climate and terroir of Aloxe Corton premiers crus
The Côte de Beaune's semi-continental climate benefits from hot summers and harsh winters, perfect for slow grape ripening. The gently sloping exposure of the plots enables the vines to take full advantage of the sun, while being protected from the prevailing winds.
Characteristics of Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru wines
The red wines of Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru are renowned for their power, complexity and exceptional ageing potential. They offer intense aromas of red fruits (cherry, raspberry) accompanied by spicy notes, undergrowth and licorice. With age, these wines develop more subtle aromas of leather, mushroom and sometimes even truffle. Tannins are firm and structured, but soften with age, revealing a harmonious balance between power and finesse. Premiers Crus wines from this appellation are particularly prized for their richness and length on the palate. They often require a few years' ageing to reach their full potential.
