    Estate

    The Domaine Plageoles is a historic, family-owned estate based in Gaillac, in Southwest France. The Plageoles family is renowned for preserving ancient indigenous grape varieties. They work organically, respecting their environment and terroir. The estate’s wines reflect authenticity and regional character. A deep commitment to tradition defines their philosophy.

    Vineyard

    Located on the right bank slopes of the Tarn River, the vineyard enjoys a mix of oceanic and Mediterranean climate. The soils—clay, limestone, and schist—contribute complexity and structure. The vines are farmed without herbicides or synthetic treatments. Yields are kept moderate to enhance aromatic concentration. The native Duras grape thrives in this historic terroir.

    Wine

    This 100% Duras red wine from Domaine Plageoles embodies the authenticity of Gaillac. Spicy and structured, it reflects the rustic character of the grape. The wine shows fresh acidity and a distinctive aromatic profile. Crafted in a traditional style, it highlights the region’s heritage. A straightforward, terroir-driven wine.

    Vintage

    The 2019 vintage featured a good balance of sunshine and cool nights. These conditions allowed for optimal ripening of the Duras grape. Harvested at full maturity, the fruit shows concentration and freshness. 2019 is considered a qualitatively strong year in Southwest France. The wines are expressive, well-structured, and balanced.

    Vinification & Aging

    Fermentation takes place in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts to preserve grape integrity. A 15-day maceration enhances color and body. Aging is done in tank to maintain variety character. Sulfites are used minimally. The goal is to produce a pure, honest wine reflecting its origin.

    Tasting

    • Appearance: Deep purple with violet hues.
    • Nose: Aromas of black fruits, black pepper, licorice, and forest floor.
    • Palate: Lively attack, firm yet polished tannins, balanced freshness, and spicy finish.

    Serving

    Serve slightly chilled, between 15–16°C. Decant one hour before serving to open up aromas.

    Aging

    Enjoy now or cellar through 2027. Will develop more tertiary notes over time.
