In Burgundy, the vintage is never merely a chronological indication. It tells the story of the conditions of a year, but also of how each plot, each grape variety, and each winegrower responded to them. In this respect, 2021 and 2022 offer two particularly distinct profiles.

Spring 2021 was marked by a severe frost episode, followed by an overall cooler and more demanding season. The resulting wines generally show precision, freshness, and delicacy. Acidity highlights the fruit without necessarily dominating it, while the most successful expressions favor finesse, transparency, and energy. Pinot Noir wines can reveal fine red fruit, floral notes, and a supple structure; Chardonnay wines often combine tension, citrus, and minerality. This profile makes many cuvées appealing in their youth, even if their ageing potential depends closely on the appellation and domaine.

Sunnier, warmer, and more generous, 2022 favored full ripeness. The wines frequently show greater volume, ample substance, and expressive fruit, while retaining, in the most accomplished balances, enough freshness to support length. The reds can combine ripe fruit, an enveloping texture, and structured tannins; the whites often offer density, brightness, and a persistent finish.

These trends should not, however, become absolute rules. From Chablis to the Côte de Nuits, from the Côte de Beaune to the Côte Chalonnaise or the Mâconnais, soils, exposures, and microclimates deeply shape the character of the wines.
