A family history rooted in the Champagne terroir

Founded in 1965 by Henri Sélèque, Champagne J-M Sélèque is located in Pierry, one of the historical cradles of Champagne. Today, Jean-Marc Sélèque, representing the third generation, continues the family tradition by combining ancestral expertise with modern techniques. After enriching experiences in Napa Valley and Australia, Jean-Marc joined the estate in 2008, bringing an innovative vision while respecting the family heritage.

A diverse vineyard in the heart of the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay

The estate spans approximately 9 hectares, divided into 45 plots across 7 villages, mainly on the southern slopes of Épernay. The grape varieties include 60% Chardonnay, 30% Meunier, and 10% Pinot Noir. This mosaic of terroirs allows for the production of champagnes that faithfully reflect the richness and diversity of the soils, primarily composed of flinty clay on a chalky subsoil.

Environmentally conscious viticulture

Committed to an ecological approach, Jean-Marc practices sustainable viticulture, incorporating biodynamic techniques. The soils are tilled, partially by horse, and plant-based preparations are used to preserve microbial life and enhance the vines' natural resistance. This focus on the vineyard aims to produce healthy and ripe grapes, essential for crafting authentic and expressive champagnes.

Precise winemaking for exceptional champagnes

In the cellar, Jean-Marc favors gentle and unadulterated winemaking processes. Fermentations are conducted in stainless steel tanks, oak barrels, and concrete eggs, with or without malolactic fermentation, depending on the desired profile for each cuvée. The wines are aged on lees for extended periods, and sulfur is used sparingly. Dosage is minimal, or even absent for certain cuvées, to preserve the purity and expression of the terroir.

Signature cuvées reflecting family expertise

Among the estate's flagship champagnes, the "Solessence" cuvée embodies the house's identity, offering a pure and crystalline expression of the terroir. Comprising 50% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier, and 10% Pinot Noir, it delights with its balance and freshness. The "Partition" cuvée results from blending seven distinct plots, each vinified separately in barrels, creating a complex and nuanced harmony. Finally, the "Soliste" range highlights unique parcels, offering single-varietal champagnes that reveal the singularity of their origin.
