I mainly drink Pinot Noir: why should I take an interest in Clos des Vaudelles 2023?

This wine offers a chance to try a different grape variety by choosing a Cabernet Franc red. It provides a point of comparison for exploring other wines, without assuming any aromatic similarities to the Pinot Noirs you usually drink.

How should I approach this wine when exploring the reds of the Loire Valley?

Clos des Vaudelles offers a clear starting point: a red Saumur from the Bodet estate, in the Saumur region. To broaden your exploration of the Loire Valley, you can use the appellation and grape variety as points of comparison.

What should I keep in mind when comparing this 2023 with another vintage of Clos des Vaudelles?

Keep in mind the Bodet estate, the Saumur appellation, and the exact name "Clos des Vaudelles." Comparing the same wine across several vintages lets you focus the tasting on the different years, rather than changing both the wine and the vintage at the same time.

How can I distinguish the wine's name from its appellation when choosing?

"Clos des Vaudelles" refers to the wine, while Saumur is the appellation. To find this specific wine from Bodet, look for both of these names together with the 2023 vintage: the appellation name alone is not enough.

What occasion would suit this bottle if I'm not looking for a particular wine in advance?

It could be a good choice for a wine-discovery evening where everyone brings a wine from a different region. Its identity as a red Saumur made from Cabernet Franc gives you a concrete topic for conversation about its origin and grape variety.
