Should I choose this 2019 Vin Jaune over the 2016 from the same estate?

Appearance: Clear golden yellow with bright highlights.
Nose: Intense aromas of fresh walnut, golden apple, with hints of curry and mild spices typical of veil aging.
Palate: Crisp attack, well-balanced acidity, saline notes, and a slightly oxidative finish that adds complexity and length.

Both wines make it possible to compare different vintages of a Côtes du Jura Vin Jaune from Lambert Frédéric. However, no tasting notes have been provided to suggest choosing the 2019 for its profile or ageing potential: the vintage alone is not enough to distinguish between them.

Is this a good gift for a Savagnin enthusiast?

This 2019 Vin Jaune is a good option for someone interested in Savagnin, the grape variety listed for this bottle. It also offers a specific wine to explore for anyone curious about the work of Lambert Frédéric, without presuming their taste preferences.

Is this Vin Jaune suitable if I'm primarily looking for a Jura Chardonnay?

No, if your aim is to discover Chardonnay: this bottle is made from Savagnin. The Côtes du Jura Chardonnay 2025 from the same estate is a closer match for that grape variety, although the information provided does not allow us to compare their flavours.

Is this bottle enough to discover the full diversity of Jura white wines?

It offers a chance to explore a white wine made from Savagnin under the Côtes du Jura appellation, but it does not on its own sum up the white wines of the Jura. The estate's catalogue also includes a Chardonnay and a "Tradition" Chardonnay-Savagnin cuvée, which offer other points of reference.

What place should it have in a tasting devoted to the Côtes du Jura appellation?

It can serve as the Savagnin white wine in a selection that also includes the estate's Côtes du Jura Pinot Noir, Poulsard or Trousseau. This provides a way to explore several wines from the same appellation and producer; however, their different vintages make it impossible to attribute the differences to grape variety alone.
