To discover Savagnin on its own, should I choose this Château-Chalon or the "Tradition" cuvée?

Appearance: Intense golden yellow with bright amber hues.
Nose: Complex aromas of walnut, soft spices, nutmeg, curry, and dried fruits.
Palate: Powerful and elegant, with well-balanced acidity, flavors of fresh walnut, toasted hazelnut, and remarkable length marked by a fine bitterness.

This 2018 Château-Chalon is made from Savagnin only, while the 2023 "Tradition" cuvée combines Chardonnay and Savagnin. If you want to discover a single grape variety, choose "En Beaumont" instead.

What could help me choose between this Château-Chalon and the 2021 Côtes du Jura Savagnin from the same estate?

They share the same grape variety, but the appellations and vintages differ: Château-Chalon 2018 on the one hand, and Côtes du Jura 2021 on the other. Choose "En Beaumont" if you want to discover the Château-Chalon appellation specifically; no tasting notes have been provided to distinguish their flavor profiles.

Is the 2018 vintage preferable to the 2017 for drinking soon?

The information provided is not enough to recommend the 2018 over the 2017 for drinking soon. Both wines are listed under the same cuvée name from Lambert Frédéric, but no information on maturity or tasting comparison is available.

Does the clavelin format require special consideration when serving a group?

The bottle holds 62 cl: take this volume into account when planning how to share it among your guests. The number of servings will depend on how much is poured into each glass.

Which other wine from the estate should I choose for a comparative tasting alongside this Château-Chalon?

The Côtes du Jura Chardonnay 2025 from Lambert Frédéric would allow you to compare two Jura grape varieties, Chardonnay and Savagnin, from the same producer. However, since the appellations and vintages also differ, this comparison would not isolate the effect of the grape variety alone.
